Go Bags for Foster Children
Penny, Michele, and Carla from Pike County Children and Youth Services join Pastor Jenn at The Giving Tree, which has suggested items for this project at its inception during Lent, 2022. It is now an on-going project. MUMC collects items children need when it is necessary to remove them from their homes and they don't have time to pack. Items in the bags include age appropriate things like toothbrushes, hair clips, onesies, diapers, teddy bears, deoderant, etc.
UMCOR Disaster Relief
UMCOR stands for United Methodist Committee on Relief and brings aid all over the world. 100% of every donation to UMCOR goes directly to efforts the need identified, 0% goes to overhead costs.
Milford UMC has participated in UMCOR projects, collecting materials to be used for safe home recovery following flood damage, assembling buckets with cleaning supplies as designated by experts.
Currently, we have been supporting UMCOR in their work communicating with partners and actively exploring the coordination of the humanitarian response in Ukraine. If you would like to make an on-line donation in support of Ukrainian response efforts, you can do so by going to: umcmis-sion.org—Advance #982450
Back to School Backpack Kits
For 2022, we will begin this summer to collect items for local students. In 2021, Milford UMC was able to distribute 75 School and Home Learning Kits in time for the opening of school! Recipients included families of The Ecumenical Food Pantry, The Agape Food Pantry at Matamoras UMC and Pike County Children and Youth. In addition, Milford UMC received a donation of 120 ‘school boxes’ from our partners at Staples and were pleased to deliver these Staples Connect Boxes to the following community partners: Baby Blessings Pantry at Dingman’s Ferry United Methodist Church, The Helping Hands Food Pantry at Drew UMC in Port Jervis, Victim’s Intervention Program, Social Worker Vivian Bruno at the DVSD Middle Schools, Agape, and Pike County Children and Youth.
Christmas Giving Tree
Each year at Christmas, we support local families and buy Christmas gifts for children in need. Members of the congregation are able to take a star, purchase an item, wrap it and return it to be delivered to a local family.
